Its been ages, i need a haircut, its clear from that Momish picture of me, I look exactly like a Mom, wierd.
OK, food news: I have been chaving the standard brekkie of toast with cinnamon and sugar...but the exciting news is my pizza stone...soo delicious, I make the pizzas with and without cheese, a fave has roated eggplant and garlic, red onions, artichoke hearts, jalepenos, olives, tomatoes, olive oil and What have you...without the meat and cheese its food combo-friendly. What you need: Pizza stone, cutter, coarse cornmeal. Stone goes on bottom of oven, cornmeal on cutting board where you roll out the dough, (trader joes or go ahead and make it), chop up your stuff starting with olive oil and tomatoes and go to town....I CANNOT STOP EATING THESE LITTLE CRUSTY THINGS. MINE ARE ALL KNARLED AND MISSSHAPEN BECAUSE I DO NOT YET HAVE THE PIZZA PADDLE DEAL...CAPS MIStake, sorry, but they are dearer to me because of it. i will have to post a picture of tonights craetion, and am going to try it with fruit? dessert pizza? presents!

Hi, Thought I would share this male beauty display...Dennis Rodman modeling for breast cancer awareness and reak houswifes of Atalanta guest star, stylist to the stars..Derek. Mondays are tough, but these outfits should cheer us up a little, i especially love the pearls on the young scenester behind Derek....Lets eat, for maximum health and deliciousness, I had 2 aidells turky maple sausages and an egg, plus kale....Gross! u say... Well I like it and so does my body.
An hour or so well after your morning coffee and toast this is how you start the serious bizness of the day: set the sausage and some shopped onion (if u lk) to sizzle in some Olive oil, add your egg in the middle and encircle with sliced tomato...sizzle for a while then flip egg, add chopped Kale on top and cover for a few min. I serve with Kosher salt, dried tarragon and sometimes chopped red chili. Or whatever is around. I buy fresh herbs at the Armenian market and hang them to dry under the cupboard, then I can add seasonal flavors to all my ersatz recipes.
See b- day news next......

Lets review
Ok, More about the Moussaka, 1) I will never use canned tomatoes again in a dish that is so much about the tomato...the Italian canned tomatoes I used were peeled whole, in puree with basil added...they were way too tomato sauce taste...ewe. So, That was a failure, what with the italian sausage, It tastes like a pot of Ragu with eggplant pieces...Que lastima! It will be good as a pasta sauce though...But that would Ruin The Food Combo ness.....Live and learn.
Side note: K.T.,My dear, deglazeing is when you pour a liquid on a sizzling pan of stuff to unstick the juicy bits from the pan and incorporate all the goodness while adding some flavor, if you use wine, beer, whiskey, port, stock, whatever you want to experiment with. You can also use water, the alcohol gives some sweetness and depth though. So, Fresh tomatoes for this one and drain them well. NEXT.....Ah, yes, more bootiful treasures from my birthday shopping experience..These lovely tins, this gorgeous 1930s japanese bowl and these hand made Webs, also bought the runner at the top for a scarf, it looks cute. the bowl was $20, but it was my birthday and i have blindness to bank account when thrift shopping...the Webs and scarf, a steal at like $13 for all and the tins $13 for all...I know ..... but ITS nOt The 80s anymore!!!!
I think i will use some of the webs for christmas wrapping elements , they also look good decorating my wood panel wall in my office.

day tripping in Glendale and the afore mentioned moussaka
it is like the New York Times Cookbook recipe except with a few changes, feta and ricotta instead of bechamel sauce. So I made it but i changed a few things and it came out pretty good except too much tomato liquid at the bottom. So tips are these: Peel mr. Eggplant, layer in salted paper towels for 15 min. to pull out the bitterness if you are sensitive to it all , like ME...Make sure tomatoes are well drained; brown onions and deglaze with some sort of alcohol; add nutmeg to the topping. I used handmade Italian sausage from Marios on Colorado in Glendale, sweet and hot, instead of plain beef, pork or lamb, very excellent.
I had a great time buying myself birthday presents at two local thrift shops i like. Thrift alley, across from the Library on Louise for books and a gorgeous bowl and the Armenian freedom thrift shop on Colorado just east of Glendale blvd., pictured here with this "say no more!" window display...gota go...lie to me is on...
Sorry the pics are all out of order...after the pic of Mssr. Aubergine are some latter day "tobey mugs", old english grog drinking vessles...everything at the A.F. T.S. is organized by color or type of thing, I love it! Check out these crucial pins ...Cat face appearing right out of the pin box! I bought that one...
Welcome to the first post on HAND! I want to share recipes, and as I thought about it realized that I would also like to share other crafty diversions...I am not sure whats to come but I am excited.
Today I am off to buy stuff for Moussaka and peruse the thrift shops for costumes to be used in my fashion drawing class. Typically this blog will revolve around these 2 main events: Thrift shops and Cooking, with side trip into fancier realms, music and art, travel and more art and some health.
Speaking of health, I have been eating and cooking with food combining in mind and have this to share. It is wonderful if you have trouble digesting or are tired and ick after meals. Also I lost some weight. Here are the basics as I have digested them from different sites on the subject, he he.. Eating starches with meat/protien can be hard to digest because of the 2 different environments that need to exist simultaneously in the stomach: acid and alkaline, so it is recommend to eat them separately. Starches with vegetables, and meats and protiens with vegetables. Basically I cook pastas, rice, etc. with veg's and meats the same.never meat and potatoes as it were. Enough for now, I will write more and post links on this subject. I will also be posting recipes following these guidelines, (sometimes loosely).
Soo, Mousaka is actually very much a food combo style recipe so I will post details after I make it today.
